George Washington and Jeffersons National Forest

George Washington and Jeffersons National Forest is a recognized dark sky location in Virginia for stargazing and astronomy activities.

Type

As a U.S. national forest, dispersed camping, also known as boondocking, is permitted away from car/RV campsites. This allows you to find even darker skies. A permit may be required.

OHV trails

Off-road vehicle trails and camping are also permitted for ATVs, dirt bikes and other OHVs (off-highway vehicles). A permit is required.
